Introduction to Gilding – Gold & Silver Leaf

Gilding is the art of applying an extremely thin layer of metal leaf to a surface, creating the beautiful appearance of gold or silver.

It has been used for centuries to decorate furniture, picture frames, sculptures, architecture and works of art.

In our workshop, you will discover the fascinating process of gilding using imitation gold and silver leaf and a water-based mordant. You will learn how a simple wooden surface can be transformed into a luminous, decorative object through patience, precision and craftsmanship.

You will be introduced to practical gilding techniques and the confidence to continue experimenting with it independently.

During your workshop you will complete a custom small gilded wooden panel to take home.
